LOCATION
Kefalonia is part of the Ionian Islands and is compared to the other, the most mountainous island.
HOW TO GET THERE
Kefalonia has one airport which is served primarily by Olympic Air. Alternatively, you can also take a boat from Patras with Strintzis Lines or from the port of Kilini.
TRANSPORTATION
The island of Kefalonia is very big and you will definitely need a car to visit the whole island. In case that you don't want to rent a car, you can take buses which are operate in regular intervals and are available in almost all parts of the island.
MONUMENTS
The Monastery of Saint Gerasimos is a sight that attracts many visitors from all over the world. Also worth seeing are the Assos Castle and the Castle of St. George.
MUSEUMS
There are two interesting museums in Argostoli: the archaeological museum and the historical folklore museum. Both can be visited in one day.
BEACHES
The island is famous for its nature, beaches and turquoise waters. The island's hallmark is the beach Mirtos. You should go early in the morning to this beach, because during the day many tourists are visiting this beach.
Another stunning beach with turquoise water is on the other side of the island, the beach Skala.
Other notable beaches are Xi which has red sand, Platis and Makris Gialos.
ABOUT THE ISLAND
Kefalonia is ideal place for a relaxing holiday. The beaches and the food are two of the main features of this island. You can also make nice excursions for example to the mountain Enos or to other islands such as Sami and Ithaca.
