LOCATION

Munich, the capital of Bavaria is located in the south of Germany and close to the Austrian Alps. Build on the banks of the river Isar, it is the third largest city of Germany.

HOW TO GET THERE

Munich international airport is the second largest in Germany, with direct daily flights from Athens offered by Aegean Airlines and Lufthansa. An alternate travel route if no direct flights are available, are flights with stop over’s in Frankfurt which  is 40 minute flight away.

MONUMENTS

Munich is a beautiful city to stroll through and stop in the occasional pub for a pint of beer. Some of the most impressive sights include “Marienplatz” which is the central square in the heart of the city and the ‘Glockenspiel’ carillon that is over 100 years old. A few steps away you’ll find the Viktualienmarkt, Munich's daily outdoor farmers market. Worth visiting is the  ‘Frauenkirche’ - Cathedral of Our Blessed Lady a landmark of Munich and the city’s largest church, capable of holding 20,000 people, the Olympic stadium. 10 miles northwest of Munich you can visit the Dachau Concentration Camp and follow the ‘path of the prisoner’, walking the same route prisoners were forced to take during WW2. Various memorials are held at the same location.

MUSEUMS

You’ll need at least a full day to visit the German Museum, which is one of the oldest and largest science and technology museums in the world.  Car and bike lovers will want to visit the world renowned BMW museum. Worth visiting are also the Bavarian National Museum of Bavaria, the  museum of Egyptian Art and several art museums.

ABOUT THE CITY

Famous for Oktoberfest, the world renown beer festival in October, Munich is a city you can enjoy a cold beer any day of the year. Visitors can go shopping, and stroll down the Maximilianstraße and visit galleries, shops, boutiques and restaurants.
