After a big number of publications the last few weeks, which report that HELLENIC SEAWAYS has abandoned the Thessaloniki-Northern Sporades route, we would like to inform you about the following:

HELLENIC SEAWAYS is the only shipping company that during the last fifteen years, specifically the years 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009, connected, with a high-speed vessel, Thessaloniki with the islands of North Sporades. In the summer of 2016 tried that once more, with the high-speed vessel Flying Cat 4. Although the financial results were not as expected, the company continued the effort in 2017, contributing to the touristic development of the coastal connection.

However, the result of this routing was not recorded with a positive mark for yet another year, making the continuation of the venture unprofitable.

HELLENIC SEAWAYS did not abandon the route, because it was not a route that belonged to the company. For two consecutive years, it has made a great effort to retain the connection, taking over the financial risk.

At the end of the second year and given the results, the company decided that it was no longer possible to continue the routing and, as Law 2932 states, it was known from 2017 that the Flying Cat 4 was already on another route.

HELLENIC SEAWAYS believes that the recent initiatives undertaken by the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization are moving in the right direction and is alert, keeping track of the process’s results.
